Burgers & Hip Hop comes to Cape Town

Words: Jess Spiro

This weekend, on Saturday the 23rd of April, Berlin’s most indulgent, gormandising and gluttonous street-food festival is taking a spin around the dark continent. The House of Machines in association with The Adventures Of…, Frankie Fenner Meat Merchants, And Union, Red Bull Music Studios and Puma, are proud to announce the arrival of this years finest reason to ‘fill it up and dance it off’.

The event, which is self-described as “the marriage of the finer things – burgers and hip hop”, was started in Berlin and has recently jumped around cities all over Europe and focuses on a one day event exploring all things between the bun. This year, Burgers & Hip Hop, otherwise known as B&HH, will be making its debut appearance in Cape Town with well-respected local chefs from the likes Royale Eatery, El Burro, Shortmarket Club, AshBeijing Opera and Jason Bakery competing to create a once-off burger for the event. Burgers will be judged by the public, and at the end of a beer, burger and beats-filled day from cities best, the winner will be presented with the bragging rights of the dopest burger in town. Another coup is the announcement that meat meglomanic, Andy Fenner, of Frankie Fenner Meat Merchants, has come on board as the official meat dealer for the event.

B&HH will be bringing the inner city to as stand still, closing down Shortmarket Street in the CBD, providing some proper CPT Hip Hop during the day and turning it up for the evening, as we cram as many bootylicious burgers and bodacious beats into the first African leg of this global gastronomic phenomenon, which has achieved cult status in cities like Berlin, Zurich and Paris.

Tickets are limited and cost R200, which are available online from Webtickets. A small amount of tickets will be available at the door on a first come, first serve basis. Tickets don’t include burgers. Doors open at 14h00 (burgers will sell until 20h00), don’t miss out on this one.
