By day, Frankie Fenner Meat Merchants (who have just moved to their new location next to bustling Heritage Square) are the infamous masters of meat. By night, their store transforms into Publik, Cape Town’s latest trendy wine spot.

Yes, it’s a bar that is all about wine. David Cope, unofficially South Africa’s very first ‘foodie’, has teamed up with Andy Fenner to open this butchery with a liquor license. A wine bar that’s inside a butchery – what more could you want?

Publik focuses on the more unusual wines. It’s a place for people to gather and try out a glass, or even a bottle, which they wouldn’t have had before or to discover a lesser-known wine served up to you in stemless glasses by people who know their vino. With a selection of wine by the glass and a list that is constantly changing, you’ll always find something new and interesting to try.

The bar celebrates wines which don’t get the recognition they deserve, that are sustainable, and made by the smaller producers who love what they do.

Foodwise, you can expect delicate charcuterie, cured olives and beautiful cheeses to nibble on while you sip your wine. You won’t be disappointed – with Frankie Fenner Meat Merchants’ stellar reputation, you can be assured that the meats will be top notch.

This is going to be the place to be, if it isn’t already. Go, drink wine and be merry.
