Words: Jess Spiro

Gin and tonic seems to be the perennial drink these days. Is there a time that a G ‘n T is not appropriate? We think not. So, if you’re like us and want to know where to find a decent gin selection (and really, who doesn’t?), then this list of gin bars in Cape Town is for you.

Gin Bars in Cape Town

The Gin Bar

Well, they certainly do what they say on the packet. The Gin Bar was always going to be a cool spot thanks to its speakeasy vibe. It’s located behind Honest Chocolate on Wale street (walk into Honest, try to resist the chocolate and keep going until you find the courtyard), and offers possibly the best selection of gins in Cape Town. If you’re at a loss you can always order their ‘tonics’, of which the ‘heart’ option is a team favourite.

Mother’s Ruin

Probably recognised as the first gin bar in Cape Town, Mother’s Ruin offers a wide selection of local and international gins, as well as many different ways of serving them. If you’re unsure of what to order you can do a curated gin tasting, where the bartenders will guide you through the best options. We like grabbing a classic and sitting outside, watching Bree street buzz.
