The Honest Chocolate brand is recognisable by its beautifully artistic packaging and is known for its authentic approach to chocolate making. Creators, and self-confessed chocophiles, Anthony and Michael, are passionate about making dark chocolate that is hand crafted from the very best organic, ethically sourced, raw ingredients.

If you’re already a fan, you’ll be ecstatic to know that there is now an Honest Chocolate Cafe in Wale Street, Cape Town. If you don’t know the brand, now is your chance to pop in and try some of the amazing goodies while enjoying a coffee. If you’re trying to follow a healthy lifestyle and think you can’t indulge in a treat… stop right there, this chocolate is free of preservatives, artificial flavourings and emulsifiers. It has no dairy and no processed sugar, so it is by far the healthiest way for you to indulge your habit without the guilt!

The café is a small space but is quirkily designed. The simplicity of the décor seems to somehow be balanced by the decadence of what’s on offer to eat and drink. There are coffees, teas and milkshakes on offer, with dairy-free options as well.

Choose from creative items like a Banana Bread Bunny Chow – a mini loaf topped with ice cream, or the nachos with cacao guacamole – a revelation that we tried and loved. We also sampled the macadamia nut butter cup and the sweet potato brownie. For our team, all of who are trying to be healthy post the holiday excess, we tasted all of the deliciousness and felt none of the guilt. So yum!

We highly recommend that locals and visitors to the city pop in and experience real chocolate prepared by the Honest folk. The team crafts every piece of chocolate by hand, tempering on a granite slab and then wrapping each piece by hand – this is a real labour of love.
