Alternative Uses for your Blender or Juicer
So you’ve made the decision to buy a juicer or a blender, and you’ve made juices and smoothies to your heart’s content. But now what? Before you start to think that you’ve bought a one trick pony, consider these recipes for inspiration.
Let’s not veer away from juices just yet, shall we? If you think you can’t drink another juice then you’ve forgotten about the best kind of juice there is, an alcoholic one. Use your juicer to extract fresh tomato juice for the best Bloody Mary you’ve ever tasted. Everything tastes better freshly made, and tinned tomato juice is no exception. Once you’ve mastered the tomato juice, save it for dinner as a sauce for lightly pickled fish, such as this Mackerel.
Marinades are a great way to tenderise meat and fish while imparting flavour. A lot of traditional recipes call for juices, and the assumption is to use pre-made juices but up your marinade by juicing the fruit you require. It will taste better and have less sugar added. Try out the marinade for these BBQ Steak Skewers or this incredible Harissa Marinade for lamb. With a huge trend of alternatives to dairy, your high speed blender is the perfect tool for homemade nut milks. All you need to remember is to soak it for at least 12 hours, but overnight is best – the longer you soak, the smoother and silkier it will be. Then all that’s left is to drain the nuts and blend! Use for this Nutty Hot Choc with Almond Milk or even in this Vanilla Chai Tea Smoothie, replacing the dairy for the nut milk. It’s delicious and easier for your stomach to digest! It may seem glaringly obvious to some but don’t forget about soup! Blenders are the best way to ensure a smooth texture. It’s also getting chillier and soup is the ultimate winter meal. Try out this Creamy Onion and Sage Soup, complete with an accompanying toastie, or this Thick Pumpkin Soup with Blue Cheese Crumbs.
