Top SA chefs confirmed for Stellenbosch at Summer Place

The illustrious Stellenbosch at Summer Place takes place on the 26th of October in Hyde Park. This event sees some of Cape Towns’ top chefs making their culinary pilgrimage to the north for a connoisseur’s feast of stalwarts, fresh talent and innovative tastes. This is a chance for Gauteng socialites to experience the pinnacle of Stellenbosch’s finest pleasures showcasing some of South Africa’s finest wines, food and art for one-night only!

This is the 7th year that Stellenbosch Wine Routes has partnered with Sanlam Private Wealth to host the event. Every year, Summer Place is transformed into a stylish winelands rendezvous that allows guests to indulge every sense at the luxurious cocktail-style affair. In addition, it provides the chance for wine-lovers to stock up on rare vintages in the run-up to the festive season and support a charitable cause – the Stellenbosch Wine Routes education fund.

Now, all of the five celebrated chefs who’ll be leading this gourmet cocktail extravaganza, presented by Stellenbosch Wine Routes and Sanlam Private Wealth, have finally been announced.

This year, the show features the following kitchen superstars:

Michael Deg of The Restaurant at Delaire Graff Estate famed for its fresh and vibrant bistro chic cuisine. Gregory Czarnecki of Waterkloof Wines restaurant, a hillside-perched venue in wrap-around glass that offers spectacular views and a premier dining experience. Michael Broughton of Terroir, consistently rated SA’s best. The celebrated George Jardine of Jordan Wine Estate restaurant and his new signature fine dining eatery in the heart of Stellenbosch. Restaurant Jardine Bistro 13’s Nic van Wyk, a chef making his debut at the event and who’s known equally for his sublime cooking as his appearances on some of SA’s most popular culinary TV programmes.

Rarely does a single event boast a collection of chefs of this caliber, and they won’t be alone. Sprinkling even more razzle-dazzle to Stellenbosch at Summer Place 2016, these maestros of the menu will be accompanied by their most outstanding protégés. Among them will be Michael Deg’s Keanan Jaftha and Gregory Czarnecki’s Garth Raubenheimer. The combination ensures that excellence forged by Stellenbosch’s illustrious past and future is truly celebrated and showcased as a place where greatness shaped over centuries is merged with the visionary talents of pioneering youth.

Stellenbosch’s fame as a centre of epicurean distinction goes on display with more than 100 of Stellenbosch’s best wines from a variety of vintages offered for tasting by winemakers and estate owners, and available for purchase. Alongside them will be sublime food creations prepared on display by these renowned chefs and their talented protégés who will demonstrate why Stellenbosch is considered by many as the gourmet capital of South Africa.

Stellenbosch at Summer Place is a not-to-be missed opportunity for lovers of the high-life to mingle with the country’s top winemakers and chefs. The Cape winelands are ranked internationally among the most beautiful and cultured destinations. Prepare to embark on a journey of gastronomic ecstasy. Chef Gregory Czarnecki demonstrates the exquisite compatibility of Stellenbosch’s fine Méthode Cap Classique bubblies and Sauvignon Blanc with his dish of cured salmon, crème fraîche crémeux and tuile de pain. Chef Michael Broughton sets up a palate extravaganza, pairing a dish of Teriyaki skewered squid, fried Onigiri Rice, pickled cucumber and ponzu dipping sauce, with some of Stellenbosch’s stellar Chenin Blancs, Chardonnays and other white wines. Chef Nic van Wyk underlines the inimitable quality of these same wines and pays homage to them and South African cuisine with his very own curried lamb parcels accompanied by an exotic coconut sauce and apricot-and-peach chutney.

Of course, some things should always be left to tantalise the imagination. For the big reveal of Chef George Jardine’s culinary creation, paired with Stellenbosch Shiraz, Merlot and Pinotage, you’ll simply have to book a ticket to Stellenbosch at Summer Place 2016.

Satisfying artistic urges at this year’s Stellenbosch at Summer Place will be live music performances while art enthusiasts will also get the privileged chance to view rare pieces from the Sanlam Art Collection – one of South Africa’s finest and most extensive of its kind.

Tickets for Stellenbosch at Summer Place cost R 500 per person and include all the wine, food and entertainment on the evening. Early booking is recommended as tickets are limited and sell out early.
