Issue 55 – The Heritage Issue
One day is simply not enough to celebrate the richness and diversity of South Africa’s culture, and so Heritage Day has evolved into Heritage Month. This issue we celebrate the best way we know… with food of course, and by chatting to some inspiring local movers and shakers. Our cover star this month is the much lauded, and yet humble local classic – the rusk, only this one is a LCHF version! Chef Rudi Liebenberg and his team at the Belmond Mount Nelson take SA classics and give them a spin – think boerewors bunny chow and peri-peri chicken liver Gatsby. We visit Boschendal, which celebrates its 330th birthday and soak up some of the history of this Wineland’s matriarch. We chat to the guys behind the Department of Coffee, who bring artisanal coffee to Khayelitsha and, in Meet the Meat, Karl shows us how to make homemade bacon!
Make sure you enter the competition to win Rhino Tears wine in Crush Says, and while you’re at it, how about making a donation towards the fight against poaching? These beautiful animals are an integral part of the big five and of our natural heritage and their conservation is an absolute priority.
