Cellarbake 2015 at Nitida

Words: Crush

The combination of wine and cakes has been made a tradition to look forward to every year with the Cellarbake event held at Nitida Wines. The 2015 event took place this past Sunday the 22nd March and was a gathering of perfect pastries and delicious wine.

The event was beautifully styled by Devon Anderson Concept and featured stunning décor pieces in turquoise tones with elements of sliver, pewter, pale greys and blues. From bunting to, hanging bottle ‘vases’ and stunning bowl designs, each with different and interesting contents, it was a feast for the eyes.

The event was of course also a feast for the tummy and boasted a selection of beautiful pastries from several of Cape Town’s top restaurants, cookery schools and pastry shops, including our very own contributor Tina Bester, the Queen of Tarts. There were also delicious delights from Denise’s Cupcakes, Larder, Whimsical Cupcakes, Eureka Mills and many more. One of the highlights was definitely the bite-sized pork belly ciabatta from Arugula Deli, which was just delicious and fall-apart tender and juicy.

Guests tasted a range of Nitida’s wines with each bite of sweet of savoury pastry and the combination is the ideal way to get to know the estate’s wines, as well as sample some of the best baking in the city. The weather played ball and the sun shone beautifully over the event. Guests languished outside on the grass listening to the live music and kids were entertained with jumping castles, boat rides and more.

If you missed out on this year’s event, make sure you diarise March 2016; this is a fabulous event in a truly beautiful setting that you don’t want to miss.
