Stellenbosch and Franschhoek have long been known for their wine routes, but the real beauty of Cape Town is that you don’t even have to drive that to get your hands on some great wines. The Constantia Valley is minutes from Cape Town and houses some amazing wine farms and million dollar views. Here are the best Constantia wine farms worth visiting.

Beau Constantia

Constantia Wine Farms

Beau Constantia is a boutique wine farm resting on some of the steepest slopes in the Cape.  It boasts lush rolling lawns, gorgeous greenery surrounding the estate and a stunning view of False Bay. It has been on everyone’s lips recently as the resident restaurant, Chef’s Warehouse, with Chef Ivor Jones at the helm, is serving some of the country’s best food. Magnificent views, incredible food and award-winning wine, what’s not to love?

Constantia Wine Farms

Buitenverwachting (which incidentally means ‘beyond expectation’) is found on the eastern slopes of Constantiaberg and is a truly lovely spot to visit that is steeped in history. Stroll around the winery and admire the views while the kids play on the lawns. If the family needs to refuel, the Coffee Bloc Café has a number of tasty dishes to enjoy and are known for their delicious cakes. There is also the more formal Butineverwachting restaurant for a more upmarket meal. If you’re up for a spot of retail therapy check out The Studio for stunning bespoke jewellery pieces.

Constantia Glen

Constantia Glen is known for their outstanding wines and unbeatable panoramic views. We love popping by on a Sunday and settling in for the afternoon. The wine tasting room has tables outside and in and there are more available at the back of the restaurant which is equally as beautiful as the front section. they offer Flammkuchen, light salads and cheese and charcuterie platters Make sure you book as they get very busy and trust us, try the Flammkuchen.

Constantia Uitsig

Constantia Uitsig is another valley wine estate that is steeped in history. It has been producing wine for over 300 years and has been a favourite of many famous folk from history, including Napolean Bonaparte.  The onsite restaurant Open Door serves contemporary food in a chic setting and remains a popular choice for locals and visitors alike. Uitsig is also home to a sophisticated dirt bike track for BMX enthusiasts, mountain bikers and cyclocross.

Eagles’ Nest

Stretched across an impressive 38ha piece of land, Eagles’ Nest has some of the most expansive views of all the Constantia wine farms. They offer snacks and platters from the tasting room, which can also be enjoyed on the lush lawns outside which overlook the forest.

Groot Constantia

Groot Constantia is not only big in size but in stature too. It is the oldest wine producing farm in the Cape and is open 7-days a week for your tasting and visiting pleasure. Not only does it boast a wide array of award-winning wines but also two restaurants – Simons and Jonkershuis. There are a number of ways to experience all that the farm has to offer including a museum tour, wine and chocolate pairing and a guided cellar tour.

Vin de Constance may steal all the spotlight, but the rest of Klein Constantia’s wines are equally as good. Pop in for a tasting and a bit of Constantia valley history. Known for being one of the most beautiful wine farms to visit, you won’t be disappointed, it is lush and immaculate.
