Benguela Brasserie Celebrates The Best of Winter Food

Words: Jess Spiro

On the banks of the Swartvlei Lagoon resides five-star boutique hotel, Lakeside Lodge & Spa, and Benguela Brasserie & Restaurant. This winter guests can expect a kitchen brimming with delicious hearty winter dishes and offerings.

As good food and wine are the setting for most winter evenings, Benguela Brasserie & Restaurant has a Gluhwein, fondue and open fire combo that aims to indulge guests in the finer things of life. Adding something different to a static winters’ evening, the Gluhwein, also known as mulled wine, is made from red wine, mulled spices and even raisins and is paired with a hot cheesy fondue and French bread, for dipping. Available on Tuesdays to Sundays from 12h00 to 15h00 from 3 May to 31 August 2016 at R240 per person. Guests receive two glasses of Gluhwein, a cheese fondue and French bread and get to indulge in front of the roaring log fire.

To spice things up a notch, Benguela Brasserie & Restaurant is introducing Curry Thursdays, offering an array of different curries to choose from. For only R125 per person, guests can choose from the Thai Green Curry with Prawns, Kaeng Hanglay with Pork and Rogan Josh with Beef, or a mixture of all three. The trio of curries is R150 per person and a special three course Indian infusion is also available for guests at R270 per person. Each dish is served with your choice of rice, homemade roti, poppadoms and a selection of freshly prepared sambals. Available every Thursday from May to August 2016 at 12h00.

There is something quite special about spending Sunday lunch with family and friends, especially over a warm fire, good conversation and amazing food. The traditional winter Sunday roast with a contemporary twist is available every Sunday from May until August 2016 and to make things a little more special, two and three courses are on offer to really make a day out of it. The two course is R260 per person and the three course is R320.

Benguela Cove wine from the Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate in Walker Bay, Hermanus, is also freely available for those who would like to pair their winter dishes with some award-winning wines.
