Elgin
2013
This wine estate perches on a southern slope above the Elgin Valley at an altitude of roughly 300 metres. The winery is a contemporary incarnation of the Cape ‘werf’ – a place held by the buildings rather than a building dominating the place. The buildings thus flow with the process of wine making and connect with the farm, the views and the natural surroundings.
The grapes used to make this wine are all from a single vineyard, called Annabelle, after their eldest daughter. The complex nose leads with fresh fruit aromas of lemon and clementine, complemented with a floral tone that underscores its minerality. The zesty palate is softened by the lees contact, leading to a lingering finish. Typical Elgin cool-climate elegance.
