Oasis Restaurant Re-Opens for Summer with a New Look and Menu

Words: Crush

The Oasis restaurant, at the Belmond Mount Nelson, has re-opened for summer with a contemporary new look and fresh new menu. With its attractive flow from inside to out, and its extensive outdoor terrace overlooking the gorgeous gardens, Oasis is a true retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life on the hotel’s doorstep.

Lush Views

Enter the restaurant and you’re immediately drawn to the vivid blue of the sparkling swimming pool and the lush greenery of the 300-year-old gardens.

A third attraction vies for your attention: a dramatic, hand-painted mural emblazoned over an entire wall of the restaurant.

The work, by artist Kim Black, captures views of Signal Hill, mirroring the soft, smoky hues of the mountains and trees, the myriad colours of Cape flora and fauna and the hotel’s striking, iconic palms.

Kim wanted to convey the feeling of the word ‘oasis’ – luxuriant beauty combined with a sense of escape – encapsulating the ambience of the restaurant.

The eye-catching revamp also includes features such as pressed crystal glass chandeliers in a petticoat design, smart herringbone oak flooring and deeply comfortable Lloyd Loom-style chairs.

 Inspired lunches

Executive Chef Rudi Liebenberg and Oasis Chef Llewelyn Hurter have pulled out all the stops to create an extraordinary menu, blending the best of Mediterranean and pan-African specialities.

Choose from an extensive buffet of vibrant salads, mezze, charcuterie, shellfish and choice South African cheeses. Or opt for à la carte, selecting tender grilled meats or fish of the day.

Discover an array of irresistible small plates, such as beef kitfo (Ethiopian steak tartare), Cape Malay bobotie bites, chargrilled octopus, seared ostrich with coriander, and crispy fried vetkoek with either biltong or apricot jam and cheese.

Delicious sauces, tapenades and pâtés are all made in the hotel kitchens, as are the exceptional artisan breads and pastries, with options including sourdough and rare grains.

Resistance may be futile when you view the dessert buffet, chockful of indulgences such as the hotel’s legendary cheesecake, pavlova, panna cotta and fruit tarts.

Sunday Lunch Buffet and Carvery

The Sunday lunch buffet is an impressive affair, with the addition of a carvery station serving succulent roast meats, tasty vegetable dishes, perfectly crisp roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding, topped off with Madagascan pepper sauce.

There is also a sumptuous seafood station with prawns, tuna, oysters, mussels and smoked trout.

Space to relax

Adding to the laid-back vibe is the much-loved Alvin Dyers Duo, delighting you with easy-listening Cape jazz classics.

The relaxed atmosphere, inviting terrace and tempting wine and cocktail list make Oasis the perfect spot for a sunny, welcoming bite.

Early Risers

Oasis is also open for breakfast, serving everything from the simple to the sublime. Sit down for freshly cooked waffles and eggs Benedict, or start the day in decadent style with oysters, smoked Franschhoek trout and champagne.
