Krone Releases Two New Wines in Time for Spring
Winter is coming to an end, making way for spring which means warmer and more enjoyable weather is on the way. Exploit this wonderful soon-to-be-spring weather by indulging yourself in the Krone Night Nectar Demi-Sec Rose 2015 or the Krone “The Phoenix” prestige Cuvée. These are both new releases from Krone, the masters of bubbly from the historical Twee Jonge Gezellen Estate in the picturesque village of Tulbagh.
The Krone Night Nectar Demi-Sec Rose 2015 has an enchanting rose blush, with beguiling aromas of fresh strawberries and cranberries, and a vivacious sparkle that captivates the senses. The sensual mouthfeel, whisper of sweetness and generous aftertaste leave the taste buds calling for more.
This bottle-fermented and lees-matured sparkling wine, a blend of the traditional Champagne varieties, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, is named in honour of the Krone tradition of night harvesting.
The Krone Night Nectar Rosé 2015, gorgeously attired in soft rose pink from head to toe, is widely available nationally in select liquor retailers and grocers at approximately R110 per bottle.
“The Phoenix” is an assemblage of the best of three vintages (2004, 2005 and 2006) and produced in unique bottles imported from France. A multi-vintage wine or Cap Classique is a purposeful blending of cuvées from different years to achieve a superior house style. The maturation for a minimum of ten years on the lees further enhances the complexity and creaminess of the wine.
Elegant and complex, the nose offers the scent of yellow blossoms, ripe peach and classic biscuity notes. The palate shows fresh apple and lemon cream flavours whilst the mousse is fine yet persistent. The finish has an underlying zesty freshness and a satisfying creaminess which stems from extended lees contact.
This wine is ideal on its own but also delicious with mushroom risotto, crayfish with orange butter, duck breast and scrambled eggs.
