A Feast for the Senses at Cresta’s New Food Court

Words: Lauren Van Zyl

One of Johannesburg’s most loved malls, Cresta Shopping Centre, has undergone an extensive extension to create a dynamic new food and entertainment court. This three-level space encapsulates more than 30 restaurants, an entertainment complex, as well as a soon-to-be-opened aquarium.

Cresta first opened its doors in Northcliff, Johannesburg in 1976 and has been attracting shoppers and diners in search of a welcoming place to unwind with family and friends ever since.

Constantly evolving to keep up with the changing needs of discerning Jo’burg customers, Cresta has undergone several upgrades since it launched. The latest refurbishments are perhaps the most exciting yet.

A concept centred around family, food and fun, Cresta’s new lifestyle hub boasts a diverse selection of over 25 local and international restaurant brands. As the outlets are split over different levels, guests can choose not only the food they want to eat, but the atmosphere they want to enjoy, too.

The top level offers casual dining, where you can indulge in an unhurried meal with family and friends. There are seafood delights at Ocean Basket, traditional Indian cuisine at Sitar and the most divine sweet treats and pastries at Chateau Gateaux, to name just a few of the options. You can while away the time in a relaxed setting at these restaurants.Cresta-Shopping-Mall
The middle level is all about fast food – a traditional food court setup (with a twist) where you can choose from a smorgasbord of options such as international favourites Burger King, McDonald’s and Subway, as well as popular local varieties such as Nandos, Chesa Nyama and Anat Falafel. This space is perfect for a quick meal on the go in a buzzing atmosphere.

There is a certain nostalgia associated with Cresta, as many families have been coming to the mall for decades. With that in mind, Cresta’s old favourites such as Milky Lane, Steers, Mugg & Bean and Spur have pride of place within this new section of the mall. From reminiscing to reinvention, Cresta has also welcomed some new concepts. A restaurant that has been making waves in Jo’burg for its mouthwatering guacamole and divine enchiladas – Mexican Fresh – is now in Cresta.

Rejuvenating its take on modern, healthy eating, Kauai has opened its flagship concept store in Cresta. A space for diners to enjoy new menu options and a fresh new approach, this Kauai encapsulates the brand’s wholesome style that regulars know and love.

Guest experience has been the driving force behind the new development, and as such the interior design and architecture have been carefully thought out to ensure that visitors enjoy their visit as much as possible.

A lovely bright, open space, with plenty of light, the décor – in hues of silver, blue and grey – exudes calm. While it is most definitely a warm and buzzing space for the whole family, there is also a sense of serenity. To make families feel even more at home, Cresta has opened a dedicated family room. This is one of a kind in South Africa, and has been designed to meet and exceed international benchmarks in family facilities.

From spacious changing facilities, a kitchenette for parents to heat up bottles and food, as well as a play area for children to escape the noise of the mall and to enjoy some time amongst toys and games, the family room will be an oasis for parents and children alike.

A well designed space, bursting with food and entertainment options, Cresta’s new lifestyle destination has something on offer for everyone.
