Crush Advent Calendar Day 17
“Zevenwacht” is derived from Dutch meaning “Seven Expectations”, which led to the creation of the brand identity and philosophy – to Exceed all Expectations.
Situated on the beautiful Stellenbosch Wine Route, this contemporary wine farm is owned and managed by the Johnson Family. The Estate has a strong commitment to historic and cultural preservation, as well as conservation of the surrounding indigenous environment.
The home vineyard occupies a magnificent 450 ha sea-board influenced position, overlooking Table Bay and False Bay. The cooling sea mists coupled with the lofty South and Southwest slopes ensure cool and extended ripening periods facilitating the creation of exceptional wines. The second farm, Zevenrivieren, located at the crest of the Helshoogte Pass, provides a boutique selection of grapes, adding to the fascinating variety of the collection.
The slopes of Zevenwacht also mark the site of one of the Cape’s most remarkable Commercial enterprises – The Tin Mines which operated here in the years leading up to the First World War. The shafts and machinery still remain on farm, hence the specific sense of place that finds expression in The Tin Mine white and red blends. These blends wonderfully demonstrate the old maxim, that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
A leader in wine tourism, Zevenwacht was one of the first Wine Estates to establish a restaurant, hotel, conference facility and Spa on the Estate. The Wine Tasting Centre, which is open 7 days a week, offers visitors wine tastings as well as cheese and chocolate pairings with Zevenwacht award winning wines. The Shoppe features beautiful hand-crafted jewellery, beadwork and ceramics, superior quality South African-made clothing and a range of premium wine apparel to make up a perfect gift.
Whether you come for the day or stay overnight they will exceed your expectations.
DAY 17 QUESTION: Cheese and _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ pairings are offered at the Zevenwacht Tasting Room.
