With a touch of tradition, a scoop of contemporary sumptuousness and a dash of glamour, the festive season at The Maslow Sandton is set to unfold in grandiose style. Renowned for its enthusiasm for the holidays, The Maslow evokes the spirit of the season, acknowledging both old and new traditions with gastronomical food in an exquisite setting.
Festive Season at The Maslow – Christmas Celebrations
On Christmas Day, The Maslow will stage a grand buffet that offers a reassuring blend of Christmas classics with a modern twist, and features some of the diverse tastes and flavours of the world that have influenced South African cuisine. To start there is a selection of canapés including truffled goat’s cheese spheres with cape fig; Salmon poke and Alabama chicken wing lollipops with blue cheese and yoghurt dip.
Complementing the summer season, guests will also have a choice of beautifully prepared salads such as Roquefort and pear salad with caramelised walnuts and garden greens; Waldorf with pink ladies, pecan nuts and shaved celery; Watermelon with feta a mint, and prawn niçoise amongst others.
In keeping with tradition, there is a selection of succulent roasted meats, hot vegetable dishes with a unmistakably Christmas flavour.
Think Honey glazed gammon with thyme apple sauce; turkey with Christmas stuffing; slow-roasted beef sirloin with onion gravy and Yorkshire pudding; Grilled line fish with confit shallot, lemon segments and parsley, as well as Crispy roast pork belly with caramelized apple gravy.
The Christmas feast culminates with decadent puddings prepared in-house at The Maslow. Amongst the choices are Key lime pie; Carrot cake with caramelized peanuts; Pear tart with vanilla bean Chantilly crème, Pecan orange Baklava pie with pistachio cardamom syrup, and Salted caramel and dark chocolate tart.

Festive Season at The Maslow – Ring in 2019 in Style
The Maslow will ring in the New Year with a spectacular four-course dinner and live entertainment. The mouthwatering menu features a stellar cast of flavours, from tuna tataki with wasabi apple; chicken ramen (a roasted broth with noodles and shimeji), and Sicilian arancini, prawn and zested lime, to blackened beef and Prawn and chilli marinara. The celebratory dinner culminates with chocolate parfait with marmalade gel, almond brittle, Cointreau crème and vanilla bean macaroons.
The first day of 2019 will be marked with a gourmet picnic on the lush lawns of The Maslow’s tranquil oasis garden.
Under African summer skies, guests can tuck into delicious snacks including a Cape cheeseboard, with sour fig preserve and melba toast; roast chicken and butternut salad with blue cheese crème; cheeseburger sliders; mini wors rolls with mustard, sheba and caramelised onion, and crispy jalapeño arancini stuffed cheddar and Parmesan. For dessert, there are strawberry and marshmallow skewers dipped in chocolate, as well as Blueberry cheesecake jars with crispy honeycomb.
