New to the hustle and bustle of the city is Dolce Bakery on Strand Street. The bakery has a big following from its flagship store in Observatory and now opens its doors in the heart of the CBD. Everyday fresh breads and cakes are brought in from the main bakery to the store in Strand Street and from here hoards of hungry business men and women enjoy what they have on offer. Not only do they serve fresh sarmies and sweet treats, but offer great coffee too. Their unfussy, simple but delicious food will keep you coming back for more.
They have recently begun specialising in baking vegan cakes and goodies, as well as offering vegan sarmies and wraps. We know finding good, tasty, reasonably priced vegan food can be very difficult, but Dolce bakery is serving up just that. We enjoyed their Caprese sandwich with a fresh pumpkin seed roll, tomato pesto, and they replaced the mozzarella with their vegan cashew cheese, which was divine! Relax, if you are a meat eater, they offer a range of other meaty options that are equally mouthwatering.
An absolute must-have are the Dolce Lindt chocolate brownies – so good that they are actually feature on the dessert menu of a multitude of restaurants in Cape Town. They are very popular, and when you taste them, you will understand why – they’re rich, fudgy, freshly baked and downright delicious. If that doesn’t pique your interest, perhaps the vegan chocolate cake might? Vegan and chocolate cake are not often merged together in a tasty manner, but at Dolce, you will be pleasantly surprised, the cake is delectable and moist and will have you asking for an extra slice to take home with you.
In terms of lunch, the store is rather small and can be very busy, but, if like the rest of us, you normally take your lunch break sitting at your desk, Dolce is the perfect place to pop out to and grab a fresh sarmie and a coffee and rush off back to your day. They are Halal certified, as well as banting and vegan friendly, which means that even the fussiest eater will find something to snack on.
