A Taste of Summer at Ocean Basket Restaurants Nationwide

Words: Crush

It’s been a long year (again) and friends and families are ready to be out and about celebrating summer and the season ahead. Even with Covid still rearing its head with new variants and with it new warnings, we’re confident that summer is still happening and we can’t wait to dive in. Ocean Basket also wanted to welcome summer with something special, so a revamped menu with some real sizzlers is here.

A Taste of Summer at Ocean Basket

For those of us at the coast, a delicious and fresh seafood meal might be something we take for granted but with Ocean Basket branches across the country, every South African family from Sandton to Secunda can enjoy the taste of the sea.

Salads and Starters

Kick off your meal with Ocean Basket’s new fresh new avo and falafel on a bed of greens, try their roasted chickpeas and feta served in a pan or their halloumi, loaded with Mediterranean salsa… this one we’re sure will become a fan fav.

A Whole Lotta Flavour

Headlining the new and tasty menu is a scrumptious Seabream that is served whole. Seabream’s dense, juicy white flesh has a satisfying meaty texture, a clean taste and a delicate flavour, making it the perfect whole-fish dish. Served 3 ways, there’s definitely a style to suit every palate. Cooking on the bone retains flavour and nutrients and makes for a delicious dish, no matter how you like it.

The grilled option comes dressed with a zingy orange and caper sauce. If you’re on the fried side of the fence (we are too), then you’ll receive yours with a creamy red pepper mayo. There’s also an option with Ocean Basket’s famous lemon-butter sauce. If you’re really hungry then only the Seabream platter for one will suffice – whole Seabream, calamari and 5 prince prawns. Now that’s a hunger-busting way to go!

For something lighter, we recommend the new Panko Prawn cakes – juicy prawn meat crumbed in a paprika-infused panko crumbs, fried and served with a zesty mayo.

Sushi Sensation

South African’s love sushi, that’s a fact and Ocean Basket has always provided a great sushi selection. The new menu however takes it up a notch with sushi platters, as well as new offerings including panko zucchini or prawn, mMd salsa (with a mix of olives and tomatoes) and kingklip options.

All the light flavours of summer in a delicious mouthful of sushi rice. Try the Chef’s Medley featuring Kingklip or the Green Supreme veg sushi platter for something completely different.
