Visit the All New Boschendal Farm Shop

Words: Crush

Although lockdown ground things to a halt across the Winelands, it’s exciting to see that positive things have come out of the downtime. Once such reveal is the brand new farm shop at one of our favourite spots, Boschendal.

What to Expect

Launched on Friday 4th September, the new farm shop showcases a range of exclusive homewares from acclaimed South African brands, artisan kitchenware and larder items handmade by the Boschendal team, along with fresh produce from the farm’s precious livestock.

The new shop celebrates some of South Africa’s small and budding designers, selected for their quality and attention to detail, and robust environmental values.

Retail Therapy at The Boschendal Farm Shop

The new and improved retail space welcomes a range of new designers, exclusive collections, and artisan items made on the farm, along with Boschendal’s signature free-range, sustainably-farmed meat and eggs. Visitors can pick up everything from their weekly groceries, luxury larder items and interior gifts sourced from exceptional, independent designers selected for their commitment to quality and robust environmental credentials.

For the first time, visitors to Boschendal can take home some of their favourite homeware items from the farm. Bespoke collections such as Botega’s ceramic range in black made exclusively for and available only at Boschendal feature alongside internationally acclaimed South African favourites such as Wonki Ware and Storm in a Teacup.

Handmade linens from Barrydale Weavers have been designed and constructed exclusively for Boschendal in the Klein Karoo, along with further exclusive colourways from Angela Swain and Chile Co. No South African home is complete without a collection of baskets – Boschendal’s selection is handcrafted in neighbouring Paarl using traditional techniques and natural materials.

Alongside the talent of local artisans, the farm shop showcases the diverse range of expertise within their own 1,800 hectares.  Wooden boards will be handmade on the farm from offcuts of South African oak and olive wood and available to purchase – they offer the perfect foundation for Boschendal’s exquisite bakery goodies baked daily.

The Boschendal Foodlab

The Boschendal Foodlab has been particularly busy developing a collection of treats and luxury larder items that celebrate the seasonal tastes of the farm; a whole range of new condiments and preserves – such as the divine guava jam – accompany sweet treats like the farm lavender shortbread.  Ready-made meals are available to take away with a full range of Boschendal wines, grown and bottled utilising almost 300 years’ winemaking heritage.

Enjoy Farm Produce

Of course, at the heart of all operations is Boschendal’s sustainable farm produce. Visitors can purchase farm eggs and black Angus beef, both free to graze and roam where they wish while fertilising the soil as they move. The Duroc pigs roam the forest floor foraging for roots and acorns, eliminating alien vegetation. In addition, a new range of fresh-cut and preserved flowers will add vibrant colour to the grocery shop.

“We are thrilled to introduce our new farm shop at Boschendal” said Georgie Davidson, CEO at Boschendal, “we are proud to celebrate the talents of both our team and our brilliant partners, along with the produce from our beloved livestock.  We hope the fruits of our labour will go further to demonstrate the pleasures to be drawn from supporting the local community and investing in the future of our environment.”

During the current lockdown restrictions, the farm is open for national leisure and business stays, hiking and biking trails, wine tastings at The Werf and dining at The Deli.  As well as the new Boschendal Farm Shop, visitors can also collect cook at-home meals and farm boxes packed with produce to cook with at home. | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram
