The Shed: A Slice of Success
As the saying goes, ‘necessity is the mother of invention’, in this case — great pizza was a necessity and The Shed was the invention. The neon-lit restaurant, which serves up delicious Neapolitan-style pizzas and immaculate vibes, continue to attract the young and the hungry. Now, two years down the line, they launch their second location, to pool in the Muizenberg community, at Surfer’s Corner.
We chat with, Kyle Ackermann and The Shed team, about their success since opening up mid lock-down, in the heart of Cape Town and find out what we can expect from their exciting new venture at The Shed, Muizenberg. Grab a slice and join the conversation.
The Shed’s Story
Crush: Tell us about how The Shed came to life.
Kyle: The Shed was born throughout lockdown as a side hustle to help out a family-friend operating a pizza oven out of his backyard. My father, Steve Ackermann, identified the niche opportunity for traditional Neapolitan Pizzas in Cape Town and decided to give the restaurant industry a go, after many years of contemplating he was finally all in. Things quickly took off with our slogan ‘For The Love of Food’ really sticking. This is what we based our entire business model on. I joined the team from a marketing P.O.V and my father and I have been growing the business ever since. Combining old school business savvy with a modern marketers brain, we have found the synergy to be a perfect fit in driving the growth and success of the restaurant. We have our sights set on a Northern Suburbs branch in the near future, the team are learning every day and having a great time along the way.
More than a Pizzeria
Crush: Tell us about your menu. You serve Neapolitan pizzas, Gourmet burgers and even traditional sushi; what was the thought behind including such a variety?
The Shed: What are the 3 most commonly sought after meals foodies go for, pizza, burgers and sushi. Where is one able to get all 3 meals that not only taste great but are good value for money? Cha-Ching!
Crush: Do you have a signature dish? What are the other best sellers/crowd faves?
The Shed: Our Real Deal Burger with 3 grass fed beef patties, 3 slices of cheese topped with garnish and plated with extra crisp skinny fries is a fan favourite and not for the faint hearted.
The Traditional wood-fired Neapolitan Margherita pizza topped with the freshest Fior Di Latte and basil, one can find is our top-of-the-list pizza.
Last but not least — our popular Shed Rolls, similar to a Rainbow roll topped with avo, mayo, salmon and caviar always seem to have customers wanting more!
