The Apostles Braai – Celebrating a Local Tradition in Ultimate Style
A braai is interwoven into the fabric of South African culture – that signature smell that fills the air signifies that the weekend is here. Guests at The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa can now experience this local past time in a luxurious new space – The Apostles Braai.
The Apostles Braai
The new braai eatery, set amid lush indigenous gardens, has been custom-built on a timber deck overlooking the rock pool at the rear of the hotel. With the imposing Twelve Apostles mountain range as the backdrop, the 32-seater room, boasting sea, mountain and sunset views, is open to the public for private functions and special events, as well as an ideal venue for Master Classes and cooking demonstrations.
This is no ordinary braai experience. The timber and glass enclosure offers spectacular mountain views and is distinctive in its style and luxury. It takes the art and enjoyment of cooking over a grill/barbeque, so loved by South Africans, to new heights. It’s a striking space of mirrored walls and picture windows allowing natural light and panoramic views to wash in.
The white cane chairs and tables, are the perfect palette to feature the ‘West Palm Blue’ upholstery, giving a coastal feel while maintaining the hotel’s signature elegance.
A handcrafted blue and white Murano glass chandelier hangs in the centre of the room, with handblown Biot glassware from Provence gracing the tables.
The menu has something for every palate, including catering for non meat eaters. From barbecue chickens with herby salsa verde, to steak, classic braai broodjies, chicken skewers and options like beetroot sliders. Executive Chef Christo Pretorius and his team will delight your tastebuds with a variety of delicious grilled flavours so synonymous with the braai.
Fly in and Dine in Style
In tandem with the opening of The Apostles Braai, the hotel’s Helipad has been re-opened following a substantial upgrade. A wide range of food, accommodation and heli-flight packages, are on offer to make the most of this special service in partnership with NAC Helicopters Cape Town.
We highly recommend this experience; we promise serious Airwolf vibes as the helicopter lifts off and lands seamlessly amongst the indigenous foliage – you’ll be hard pressed to find a better way to arrive and leave the hotel. You can fly in for the braai experience, or perhaps leave from the hotel to do a spot of shopping at the V & A Waterfront. Nothing beats the view of the coastline and the azure seas below, never mind cutting the travel time down to mere minutes. Now that’s luxury.
With summer on the way, the hotel’s superb position is perfect for picnics! Proposals, family gatherings, special occasions all call for a celebration out of the ordinary, which The Twelve Apostles is renowned for.
Take a Walk on the Wild Side
Taking full advantage of its exceptional location and unique environment The Twelve Apostles has also added a new adventure experience for guests (no need to be a hotel resident). The Fynbos Trail is a 3km guided hiking trail, leading directly from the hotel and heading into the Table Mountain National Park. The walk takes approximately 60 minutes, finishing at the River crossing where dry snacks and a refreshing drink are served, before walkers return to one of the restaurants to enjoy their chosen culinary experience. So pull on your walking shoes and head for the hills at The Twelve Apostles!
