2019 World’s 50 Best Restaurants Extended List Awards La Colombe

Words: Crush

This year The World’s 50 Best Restaurants extended its list of restaurants ranked between 51st and 100th to 120. Acclaimed Cape Town restaurant La Colombe took the 114th spot.

Celebrating the 120th anniversary of sponsor San Pellegrino

The extension was created to celebrate the 120th anniversary of main sponsor San Pellegrino, allowing the awards to shine the spotlight and champion a growing number of brilliant chefs, celebrate regional diversity, and embrace hospitality teams more globally. The list is compiled by a voting Academy of over 1,000 international chefs, food writers and travelling gastronomes.

This year the 51 to 120 best restaurants list includes restaurants from 25 countries across five continents and boasts 21 new entries from 15 countries. Marking a near 30% increase in new territories compared to previous years.

La Colombe is headed up by Executive Chef, James Gaag, Head Chef, Jess van Dyk, and Chef-Proprietor Scot Kirton.

“We are so proud of this achievement and would like to thank ‘The World’s 50 Best Restaurants’ for selecting La Colombe as one of the top restaurants in the world. We are delighted to be included, and the La Colombe team appreciates this notable international recognition. No doubt, we are definitely aiming to move up on that list in 2020… we have some awesome inspiration for our loyal local and international diners following our recent trip to the US and Mexico,” enthused Executive Chef, James Gaag. “We are looking forward to showcasing some unique and exciting flavours on our menu!”

The 2019 World’s 50 Best Restaurants awards will take place in Singapore on 25 June, where the world’s finest restaurants are celebrated and the largest community of chefs and global gastronomic leaders are brought together.
