Winemakers Dinners at Mont Rochelle, Franschhoek
To get to know a range of wines better, it’s always a good idea (if you can) to visit and learn about them at their source. If you live in the Western Cape, there’s simply no reason to do it any other way. One of the best ways to really immerse yourself is to experience a food and wine pairing, and at Mont Rochelle, Sir Richard Branson’s 26-bedroom hotel and vineyard, in Franschhoek, they offer Winemakers Dinners every last Thursday of the month.
Winemakers Dinners at Mont Rochelle
During the Winemakers Dinner series at Mont Rochelle, you have the opportunity to learn about the wines you’re drinking and to bend the ear of winemaker Dustin Osborne, who will give you insight into what went into the making of each bottle. So often winemakers are busy in the vineyards and in the cellar, so we enjoy the work they do but never get the chance to actually meet them and chat about their craft.
The wine-paired dinners at Mont Rochelle take you through six delicious courses (actually seven including the amuse bouche) created by chef Shane Louw and his team at MIKO Restaurant. Each course is designed to bring out the best in the food and the wine.
Our Favourite Courses
Of a delicious menu, the pairings that really stood out for us were the third course – Wild Mushroom Risotto with Parmesan cream, paired with MIKO Chardonnay 2016. We could be biased because of our love for Chardonnay, but aside from that, we loved how it paired with the umaminess of this dish.
Another winner was the Mont Rochelle 2010 Syrah, paired with the Pan-fried Springbok Loin with cranberry gel and sumac roasted carrots. A divine straw wine jus complemented the dish and the wine beautifully.
Book your seats
These intimate winemakers dinners are priced at R750 per person and take place on the last Thursday of every month, starting at 19h00. Spaces are limited and advance bookings are recommended.
Why not make a night of it and stay over at Mont Rochelle; this stunning venue is one of the most special places to stay in the Franschhoek valley.
