We visit the House and Leisure Night Market 2015

Words: Crush

The House and Leisure market was held at City Hall in Cape Town last night. This great, historic venue came alive with sound of music and the aroma of yummy food. There is something quite special about strolling around city hall, taking in the beautiful architecture and history, while also enjoying a spot of retail therapy. Even though loadshedding cut the power at 6 o’clock, the space was lit up with candles and solar lights, giving it a wonderfully sentimental atmosphere and a lovely warm glow. Live music was broadcast through the venue and this added to the vibe.

Products on display included a variety of décor items for the home (Terrariums, hanging jars, copper cups), some accessories (bags, scarves, jewellery) and artisanal food products. Foodie products that stood out were Darling Sweets, gorgeous hand made caramels and Kaapse Liqueurs , a range of locally produced, preservative and colourant-free liqueurs.

After looking through the array of products on show we sat down at the bar and seating area to enjoy a drink and a bite to eat. There was a great array of food and drinks on offer including fresh juices, curries, samosas, salads, ribs and more. After dinner we hit up the coffee stand and tucked into some sweet treats.

This is a great market to attend and the venue is a great escape from the winter cold – we look forward to attending the next one soon.
