Master the Art of Salt and Sweet with the Best Salted Caramel Recipes

The mixture of savoury salt and sweet caramel are two opposites that certainly do attract. A pinch of salt works in perfect harmony with caramel, which can be a cloyingly sweet flavour, and turns it into a something heavenly!  To crush these cravings (excuse the pun) we’ve decided to share some irresistible salted caramel recipes that have been styled to make your mouth water.

Salted Caramel Sauce

This salted caramel sauce recipe is an archival type of recipe. With such a great base recipe to work from, you can adapt it and use for different occasions.

Makes approx: 450ml
Difficulty: easy
Prep time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 10 minutes

  • 200 g unsalted butter
  • ¾ C (150 g) light brown sugar
  • ¾ C (160 g) castor sugar
  • 150 g corn syrup
  • 1 C (250 ml) thick cream
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) Maldon sea salt to taste

Combine all the ingredients, except the salt, in a deep heavy-bottomed pot. Stir over medium heat for approximately 10 minutes. Remove from the heat and stir in the salt.

Serve with White Chocolate Cheesecake and Caramelised Macadamia Nuts. The sauce can also be stored in a sealed container or a jar in the fridge and will keep for 6 months.

Tips
– You can substitute the corn syrup with golden syrup but it will affect the flavour of the sauce.
– Always use unsalted butter so that it doesn’t influence the flavour of the sea salt.
