We’re fortunate enough to live in a city that has breathtaking natural landscapes and views, so it would be crazy to not take advantage of all the great picnic specials around Cape Town.

Casa Labia
Built in 1929 to reflect the spirit of 18th century Venice, Casa Labia is the former Muizenberg residence of Count and Countess Natale Labia. The building and infrastructure are grandiose but the views are also spectacular. You can now spend the day on their lawns by booking a picnic basket! The basket includes a bottle of red or white wine, an antipasti platter with a selection of specially curated cheeses, meats, nuts, their own homemade bread and a chocolate brownie. They also have vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free and kiddies options available on request.

The Lawns at the Roundhouse
A Cape Town classic! The Lawns is nestled between views of Table Mountain and the Atlantic Ocean, it’s the perfect spot to spend the afternoon enjoying a boozy picnic. The basket includes fresh bread and dips, a cheese-and-meat board, wraps, and the cake of the day. You can also order off the menu too. Don’t forget to book at least a day in advance.

Camps Bay Retreat
Spectacular views is an understatement! Spend the day on their rolling green grass with views that stretch across the ever-changing Atlantic Ocean and along the peaks of the Twelve Apostles Mountain Range. Depending on what you choose their picnic baskets include tasty treats like fresh bread, a selection of cheeses, charcuterie, chicken and pineapple skewers, garden salad, fruit, chocolate brownies, still and sparkling water.

The Cellars-Hohenort
Set in nine acres of lush, enchanting gardens, guests can spread out under the ancient camphor trees for a relaxed afternoon picnic. Perfect for friends or for the whole family, either way, you will have an enchanting day. There are two picnic baskets to choose from but keep in mind, booking is required a minimum of 24 hours before.

Norval Foundation
Spend the day surrounded by art, nature and culture at the Norval Foundation Sculpture Garden with a Skotnes picnic. Right next to Steenberg Wine Farm, so if you get the sudden urge for a wine tasting you can just go right on over. Picnic bookings must be made at least 24 hours in advance. Don’t forget your picnic blanket!
Cost: R295pp and include entrance to the Sculpture Garden and parking. Kiddies picnics are R95 per child.

Kirstenbosch
Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden is acclaimed as one of the great botanic gardens of the world. Now you can sit back and take in the views all while snacking on some good food. Pre-order a picnic basket from the Kirstenbosch Tea Room before arriving. They also have a vegetarian option available.

Wine Farm Picnics
Boschendal
Enjoy a picnic basket filled with delicious farm produce under the shade of the oak trees. Surrounded by Boschendal’s heritage rose garden and beautiful mountain views, sit back and enjoy the day eating and drinking. A family-owned wine estate in Stellenbosch offering beautifully crafted wines, delicious lunches and picnics featuring local seasonal produce. Hartenberg Wine Estate feels as if it was made for picnics, spacious lawns, wooden bridge, open fields, there are so many places for you to explore and to layout and relax for the day. Quoin Rock
Nothing beats a picnic at a lush wine farm. At Quoin Rock there are eight custom-built picnic pods, where picnics take place, on proper crockery, using a walkie talkie to let the waiter know if you require anything. Beautifully made 2015 red wines and lovely fruit-expressive 2017 white wines are available to order. Yes, even the ever-popular Vine Dried Sauvignon Blanc (sweet) and MCC. There are vegan, vegetarian and kiddies’ options available. You will need to pay a deposit to book.
