Celebrating 40 Years of Delheim’s Pinotage Rosé

Words: Crush

Delheim Estate, celebrates the 40th anniversary of its world-renowned rosé with the release of the latest 2016 vintage, which now also flaunts a fresh new and altogether more striking look.

Since 1976, the Delheim Pinotage Rosé has developed a loyal following across the globe for its fresh, fruit-forward yet balanced style that vibrantly expresses a true Stellenbosch identity. This internationally famed ‘golden oldie’ has also been given a new lease on life with a cleaner label design that lends a more contemporary edge and is in line with the rest of the estate’s revamped portfolio of fine wines.

“My father, Spatz Sperling, left a rosy legacy by giving the country its first rosé wine dedicated to the proudly South African Pinotage varietal four decades ago. This year we pay tribute to this pioneering feat and it is only fitting that we give our accessible Delheim Pinotage Rose a mini facelift on its 40th birthday. A classy, crisp look that is now on par with that of our other wines,” shares Nora Sperling-Thiel.

Reminiscent of a perky spring breeze, the profile of the 2016 vintage – a blend of 96% Pinotage and 4% Muscat de Frontignan – is however, still distinctly unique and widely popular with complex raspberry, strawberry and pomegranate notes infused with fresh floral undertones.

Radiant with a pale, candy floss hue, the palate shows ripe summer berry concentration with the splash of Muscat balancing crisp acidity and red berry sweetness with a juicy fruit character that leads to a refreshing finish.

The Delheim Pinotage Rosé 2016 will keep well for a few years and pairs perfectly with smoked salmon, sushi, sweet desserts, savoury pastries and slightly spicy, aromatic cuisine such as mild curries and Thai dishes. It also balances the richness of creamy salads.

At a recommended retail price of R59 per bottle, the quality over-delivers for its versatility, character and value.
