A New Tasting Menu for the Season

The menu from Head Chef Tyron Gentry and his team showcases inventive, flavour-packed dishes from an à la carte menu or tasting menu, the latter being a great way to experience the kitchen’s culinary skills. The latest iteration of the tasting menu has just launched, which includes a wine or cocktail-paired option.

The Shortmarket Club JHB Cocktails – A Must-Try

A visit to The Shortmarket Club JHB wouldn’t be complete without trying one of their cocktails. The Classic Old-Fashioned was a standout, served with an intriguing smoke infusion that added depth and complexity to the classic drink. The smoky aroma lingered, making the drink both visually striking and utterly delicious.

The Shortmarket Club JHB Tasting Menu

We opted for the Tasting Menu, and began with the Thai Sashimi, beautifully plated with pad Thai dressing, coconut yoghurt, nuoc cham dressing and creamy togarashi mayo – a vibrant and pretty dish that set a high standard for the meal. We loved the bright flavours and perfectly balanced dressing.

The precision-cut Beef Tartare served with a rocket and chive dressing and artfully plated on a swirl of soy-infused mayo emulsion, was another standout. With a Parmesan puff pastry to scoop it up this dish showcased the kitchen’s skill in marrying bold flavours with sophisticated presentation.

We opted for the lobster dish with tortellini, for mains – cooked to perfection, the lobster’s natural sweetness was enhanced by a light, yet umami-packed shellfish bisque. Both the lobster and the prawn tortellini were tender and succulent.

We also loved the kitchen gifts – a decadent duck l’orange on toasted brioche and ceviche, as well as a tart tequila sorbet palate cleanser with compressed apple to refresh us midway through the meal.

The vibe at The Shortmarket Club is unmistakably upmarket, yet not pretentious. The service is polished but warm, ensuring that guests feel well taken care of. Whether you’re seated at one of the intimate booths or a sleek table, the space feels like the perfect backdrop for indulging in world-class cuisine.
