Wilderer is South Africa’s first and most awarded craft distillery producing gin, grappa and Eaux de Vie from the Western Cape of South Africa. Established by master distiller Helmut Wilderer in Stellenbosch in January 1995, Wilderer operates from two premises in Paarl — one in Simondium and another on the celebrated Spice Route destination farm in Suider Paarl. Each have their own restaurant, Pappa Grappa (Simondium) and La Grapperia (Spice Route), promising delicious meals alongside tastings of their innovative spirits.
The Spirit of the Cape
In honour of Helmut Wilderer, Wilderer Distillery strives to craft the true Spirit of the Cape. In their everlasting pursuit of top quality spirits, they seek the best local produce the Cape has to offer. Fresh, ripe and full of aroma, the fruit and botanicals undergo a careful process of fermentation and distillation using German equipment of the highest technological standard. The distillers then select only the best litres produced to be bottled and branded.
“Gut ding braucht weile” or “good things take time” was one of Helmut Wilderer’s favourite mantras.

Wilderer Fynbos Gin
Produced in harmony with nature with the purest wine spirit, water from the Franschhoek mountains and unique Fynbos botanicals, make this Cape Gin a true South African speciality. Wilderer Fynbos Gin boasts a very well balanced assortment of herbs, spices and zest on the nose. On the palate, it reveals juniper berries and typical Cape Fynbos in stunning depth and complexity. We recommend sipping it neat, or mixing with quality soda or tonic water.
