Charly’s Bakery
Charly’s has been ‘mucking afazing’ cakes since 1989, making itself a bit of an institution in Cape Town. The family run business even had its own reality show, Charly’s Angels, showing us that blood is thicker than water and maybe to think twice before working for the family business. They make custom cakes for all occasions, but don’t wait till then to try one, stop in at the bakery to sample all their famous treats. This is spot to buy cake for any occasion.

The Chocolate Cake Jar consists of moist chocolate cake drizzled with salted caramel and dark chocolate ganache, brownie bits and pretzel bark and is topped with toasted marshmallow fluff.
A must try! The Apple Pecan Cake Jar is one of their newest creations, it consists of soft apple and cinnamon cake topped with roasted apple pieces, caramelised pecan nuts and cinnamon marshmallow. Yum!

Dolce Bakery, Strand Street
Dolce Bakery has branches in Observatory and Strand Street in town. They serve up unfussy, simple but delicious food will keep you coming back for more. They’ve recently begun specialising in baking vegan cakes and goodies, as well as offering vegan sarmies and wraps.
A must try! The chocolate brownie (not vegan), is one of the best we have ever had. Or try the vegan chocolate cake, which is very moist and tasty.

Arbour Café
Inspired by the crêperies of Paris and sipping cappuccinos at European street-side cafes, Arbour Café is giving foodies a quaint taste of France in Birdhaven, Johannesburg. While traditionally not a cake per se, the Arbour Café is known for its signature filled crêpes – the traditional French sweet pancakes – in a variety of flavours. Cooked to perfection, the crêpes are served piping hot and are light, fluffy and golden, with a nice crisp edge.

Park Café
There are a lot of things to love about Park Café – the friendly staff, unpretentious atmosphere, pretty interior and décor, and of course the delicious food. Coffee is served in individually designed Ritzenhoff cups and is made in the spectacular eagle-topped Belle Epoque coffee machine that sits on the counter. The menu is all about delicious, healthy ingredients and is all freshly prepared in the little kitchen at the back of the café. Serving everything from hearty breakfasts to tasty lunchtime dishes and not forgetting the selection of homemade sweet treats and cakes – think red velvet, cheesecake with chocolate ganache, carrot cake and so much more.
