Retro Rouge Festival: Celebrating Muratie’s Rediscovered Vintage Wines
Tucked into the exquisite Knorhoek Valley north of Stellenbosch, Muratie Wine Estate, under the stewardship of Rijk Melck and his family, is one of the oldest and most beautiful estates in South Africa.
Along with that age comes many characters, fascinating stories, and some outstanding vintage wines which will be celebrated at Muratie Wine Estates first ever Retro Rouge Festival.
Celebrating the Rich History of Muratie Wine Estate
The farm itself dates back to 1685 when it was granted by Governor Simon van der Stel who was Governor of the Cape of Good Hope at the time. The Melck family has revived this rich heritage in an updated yet classical evolution of the brand, naming its range after many of these colourful characters.
And as it goes on old farms, Muratie Wine Estate has rediscovered a hideaway of old vintage wines.
After extensive sampling by their team, they have decided to open these gems to the public…in their first ever, Retro Rouge Festival to be held 1 June 2019.
Retro Rouge Festival: Celebrating Muratie’s Best Vintage Wines
“Celebrating our history through vintage wine” is the theme of the day for this fantastic festival. Muratie Wine Estate has released some great new vintages on Laurens Campher 2018 and Ansela van de Caab 2016, both of which are showing well.
Live music will delight festival goers and delicious food will be available to enjoy underneath their 300-year oak tree.
Entry will include a vast array of vintage wines and a branded Muratie glass to take home as a keepsake.
Book for Retro Rouge via email or feel free to pop into their rustic tasting room to do so where you can stock up your wine cellar at the same time.
