Thanks to the invention of social media, now more than ever, we eat with our eyes. Instagram is a wonderful invention that allows food lovers to see what their heroes are getting up to daily. We round up some of our most drool-worthy Instagram accounts, run by some of the best chefs around.

The owner of the inimitable Momofuku brand knows good food and he knows how to photograph it too. If you’re hungry, don’t watch the videos of the ramen at Momofuku Noodle Bar, it’s nothing short of food porn.

A seasoned chef of the New York fine dining world, Nate Appleman is now the culinary director for Chipotle in the States. But if you think he’s into fast food, you’re wrong. His Instagram account has been dubbed the definition of ‘healthy-ish’ and is a filled with simple dishes made with fresh and interesting ingredients. Nate’s food is the kind we’d like to come home to every day.

Our own Chris Erasmus, head chef of Foliage, treats his followers to a glimpse behind the busy restaurant doors, as well as some tasty looking dishes. His account is great to see the way new dishes come together, as well as how Erasmus spends his free time enjoying our fair Cape.

If you thought that ant eggs and fish roe couldn’t look appetising, Rene Redzepi is here to change your mind. The awe-inspiring chef behind Noma puts up pictures of incredible looking dishes, made using some interesting ingredients. Right now, the restaurant has moved to Mexico, so you can learn all about the produce of the Yucatan region.

A former chef at Noma, Rosio Sanchez is no stranger to beautifully crafted food. She left to open up her own taco stand at the Torvehallerne Market in Copenhagen, Hija de Sanchez, where she turns out some truly smashing Mexican fare. Her Instagram feed is nothing short of mouth watering. Expect to see lots and lots of tacos. She’s currently in Tulum with the rest of the Noma crew, so you’ll probably catch yourself Googling flights to Mexico after you follow her.

No one needs to be reminded that Amsterdam is one of the world’s best food cities, but just in case you do, Alex Haupt’s Instagram feed is here. He’s the head chef of Hoofdstad Brasserie, a classic bistro that serves up seasonal modern European-inspired dishes. One scroll through Haupt’s curated feed will tell you everything you need to know about his food. Meticulously prepared with a lot of heart, he knows how to put together some beautiful dishes that we’re certain taste even better than they look.

While you wait for that reservation, treat yourself to a wander through his Instagram, where you will find snaps of all the drool-worthy dishes he’s working on that often make their way onto the menu.

Does this man need an introduction? Just in case you’ve been living under a rock, Yotam Ottolenghi is the genius behind the Middle Eastern-inspired delis in London. Born in Israel but based in London, his food is comforting and generous and incorporates exciting ingredients. If you think salads are boring, you need Ottolenghi in your life.

April Bloomfield one of the original badass Michelin-starred chefs who has conquered the British and American food scene. She’s also the poster child for nose-to-tail eating and her Instagram account is made up of a dreamy farm life and drool-worthy food. Her restaurant Salvation Burger in New York has something of a cult following and a scroll through her feed makes it very clear why.

The Table at De Meye is easily one of the best restaurants in this fair country of ours, and owners Jess and Luke Grant are some of the nicest folks around. When you book lunch there, they welcome you as if you were family. We’re almost as obsessed with their Instagram feed, which is run by Jess. It’s a journey of delicious food, their gorgeous veggie garden and a cute pup thrown in for good measure.

Having cut his teeth at iconic St. John in London, Giles Edwards was only ever going to produce some outstanding food when he opened La Tete in Cape Town. His restaurant is a real treat and so is his social media presence, which is filled with the exciting and varied dishes that feature on his menu. He uses fresh, seasonal ingredients and makes some truly beautiful plates of food. You’ll be double tapping each one of Giles’ pictures, that we can guarantee.

He calls himself ‘The Cabbage Butcher’, and rightfully so. Martin Nordin, who heads up the creative department at Ikea in Sweden, has an Instagram feed that will actually make you want to cook. Mostly based around veggies, he cooks up clean, hearty food and shoots it perfectly.
