Leatherman® FREE™ T4 for the Everyday Hero(ine)
Leatherman® is a household name in South Africa. It conjures up memories of fishing trips with the family, outdoor braais and camping trips. It’s the epitome of multipurpose tools and with one in hand, you can pretty much do everything, even get yourself out of some hairy situations (not advised though).
The Leatherman® FREE™ T4 is an everyday workhorse with a whopping 12 tools that fit into a petite and compact 9cm body.
Equipped with a knife, pair of scissors, bottle opener, three different sized screwdrivers and tweezers, amongst others, this little tool is pretty much all you need to get you out of a bind, whether big or small. Gone are the days of relying on a handyman… or any man, for that matter.
Be an Everyday Hero(ine) with the Leatherman® FREE™ T4
We want to show you just how handy a Leatherman® can be, even in the kitchen! You don’t need to be scaling a mountain on one toe for the Leatherman® FREE™ T4 to be of use. You could be snipping herbs or changing a kitchen plug. Think how cool you’ll feel at your next dinner party when someone’s blender plug just ‘suddenly’ needs replacing and you casually walk by and say “Oh, I can fix that… step aside please”. We all aspire to that level of independence, am I right?
How to Use Leatherman® FREE™ T4 in the Kitchen
We’ve developed this recipe to show you how you can make use of the Leatherman® FREE™ T4 in the kitchen, while cooking, or doing handiwork.

The Leatherman® FREE™ T4 scissor tool is perfect for cutting small amounts of herbs off the stem, or for conveniently snipping chives directly into the dish for serving. When something truly awful happens that requires you to *gasp* change a plug, don’t fret! Just use one of the three different screwdrivers and there you have it.

Recipe: Cumin Roasted Cauliflower Soup
Nothing warms up the bones on a cold night like a nourishing bowl of soup. We love the roasty, toasty flavours of cumin that make this soup so delicious. Our favourite part has to be those golden roasted cauli croutons on top!
Use your Leatherman® FREE™ T4 to make prep work a breeze.
Ingredients
1.5 kg cauliflower
olive oil for drizzling
2 Tbsp (30 ml) ground cumin
salt and pepper
olive oil for frying
1 large onion, chopped
2 baby leeks, chopped
2 garlic cloves, chopped
1 Tbsp (15 ml) chopped fresh thyme
2 C (500 ml) vegetable stock (+ ½ C extra if needed)
1 C (250 ml) fresh cream
a squeeze of lemon juice
salt and pepper
To Serve
drizzle of olive oil
reserved roasted cauliflower florets
100 g croutons
5-6 chives, chopped/snipped
50 g Parmesan cheese, grated (optional)
Soup
Preheat the oven to 220 ºC.
Break the cauliflower into small florets; slice some pieces in half and place them cut side down on a baking tray (this helps them caramelise). Drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with cumin and then season with salt and pepper. Roast for 20 minutes or until the cauliflower is golden brown, then remove from the oven. Keep a few of the sliced florets that are well caramelised aside to use as garnish for the top of the soup.
Set a large pot over medium-high heat. Heat a splash of oil and fry the onion and leeks until they begin to soften and colour. Add the garlic and thyme and fry for another minute until fragrant.
Pour in the stock and cream and add the cauliflower, stir to combine and simmer for 3-4 minutes. Remove from the heat and blitz with a hand blender until smooth. If the soup is thick, add extra stock, a little at a time, until the desired consistency is reached. Add a small squeeze of lemon juice and season to taste.
To Serve
Portion the soup into serving bowls, add a swirl of olive oil to the top of each and then garnish with roasted florets, croutons, chives and grated Parmesan.
