Celebrating a Rosy Decade of Waterkloof Wines

Words: Crush

Waterkloof Estate celebrates its decade of winemaking in harmony with nature on the outskirts of Somerset West with the release of the tenth vintage of its elegantly dry rosé, Cape Coral 2015.

Styling with a fresh new label in the estate’s site specific Circumstance range, this naturally fermented rRosé is made with 100% Mourvèdre grapes and enjoys world recognition as a serious pink wine.

Brimming with vitality and showing great harmony, the Cape Coral Rosé 2015 is a sophisticated rendition that challenges the frivolous stereotypes that are often associated with rosé wines.

The grapes were hand-picked and whole bunch pressed for the gentle extraction of the finest juices, while no further maceration on the skins was allowed. The alcoholic fermentation of the 2015 vintage started spontaneously with wild yeasts that occur naturally in the vineyard. This was completed in older wooden vats to ensure a slow ingress of oxygen throughout the time-honoured process and therefore a longer fermentation without picking-up any oak aromas.

With its pale pink coral hue, Waterkloof’s Cape Coral Rosé 2015 allures with sensual floral aromas and hints of minerality on the nose. The palate is soft, fresh and supple with red berries and a hint of savoury spice, whilst a well-balanced acidity adds to a clean, dry finish.

Serve this wine chilled on its own or marry it with fresh seafood pleasures such as salmon and oysters, Thai dishes or crisp salads.

The Cape Coral Rosé 2015 retails at R95 a bottle and is available at the Waterkloof cellar, selected wine outlets and leading restaurants.
