Stellenbosch Vineyards has recently opened Swirl Restaurant, its one-of-a-kind wine and food experience on Welmoed Farm, just outside of Stellenbosch. An extension to its contemporary tasting room, visitors can now enjoy a sensory adventure exploring the stories behind each range in the Stellenbosch Vineyards Collection of Fine Wines alongside an array of food styles and flavours.

The Menu at Swirl Restaurant

The menu, specifically designed by chef Livinia Plaaitjes and winemaking duo Abraham De Villiers and Bernard Claassen, offers a variety of dining options. Choose between one of the set pairings and learn about the marriage of wine with food, or create your own experience with the vast “to share” dishes, each with its own wine recommendation. For those that prefer to relax on the wooden deck with light snacks and a bottle of wine, there’s also a platter selection to choose from.

The Venue: Swirl Restaurant

The venue is tastefully elevated to encourage a sociable atmosphere that portrays a sense of togetherness whilst continuing to honour the Welmoed farm’s rich winemaking history and present-day victories. In return, Swirl also acts as a catalyst for a closer connection between its available food offerings and the luxury wine tasting room.

“We want our guests to feel as comfortable as they would be when dining at friends’ home,” says brand home manager Ruan Willers, “and we encourage people to spend the afternoon with their family at Swirl, returning again as friends.”

The Winemakers Pairing at Swirl Restaurant

The jewel in the crown of Swirl’s wine and food experiences is the Winemaker’s Pairing – a five-course wine and food pairing that showcases the prestigious Credo range. On arrival, settle in and take in the beautiful scenery whilst enjoying a glass of Infiniti Brut MCC. Begin the pairing with the Credo Chardonnay paired beautifully with a ginger and lime infused prawn skewer, alongside a citrus aioli.

Next, the Credo Chenin Blanc paired with a mild tikka chicken masala curry and basmati rice. The showstopper, a duo pairing of Credo Shiraz and Shiraz Merlot Viognier placed together with a duo lamb rack, coated with a parmesan herb and a pepper crust, on top of a sweet potato puree. Then, the Credo Pinotage Reserve paired with ostrich steak, a berry coulis and braised cabbage. Finish off with a sweet ending, namely, the Infiniti Noble Late Harvest paired with a Lemon Crème Brulee.

Other pairings on the menu include the Signature Pairing, which showcases the Stellenbosch Vineyards signature blue label range, and the Heyden’s Pairing that focuses on the Welmoed Heritage Selection range.

Swirl is also a family-friendly venue offering a dedicated children’s menu for youngsters to choose from. Outdoor jungle gyms remain a favourite for little ones visiting the farm, as well as the rolling lawns giving tons of space to play.
