The amicable winemakers of the Bottelary Hills region have saved their best Pop Up Lunch of 2017 for last when Scotland-born chef George Jardine will make their champion wines shine during a feast of provenance and passion. The George Jardine Pop up at Mooiplaas Wine Estate and Private Nature Reserve on Sunday, 19 November.
“This will be the last of the 2017 lunch series presented by this Stellenbosch wine route and is an opportunity no epicurean dare miss. Turning on his Scottish charm, George will pull out all the stops with his country menu that pays homage to heritage fare and local deliciousness.” shares Elmarie Rabe, Stellenbosch Wine Routes Manager.
What’s on the menu for the George Jardine Pop Up Lunch
His menu remains a bit of an ‘early Christmas surprise’ but according to him, it will celebrate the historical roots and bounty of the region. His sumptuous creations will be paired with slow-crafted wines unique to the area and guests will have the chance to socialise with the winemakers or owners themselves.
Your host for the day is Mooiplaas, which has a reputation for spectacular scenery almost equal to the elegance of its wines. Here too, is a farm built on heritage, care for the land and topographical contrast that results in diverse microclimates.

Mooiplaas will be joined by Kaapzicht, Hartenberg, Hazendal and Villiera on the day to showcase and share their finest cellar gems, which will also be available for purchase.
“Bottelary Hills, one of five sub-routes of South Africa’s famous wine capital, is home to some of the oldest wine farms in the country and many of them have been nurtured over generations by the same families. As a result, they have an incomparable understanding of the terroir, which shows in the wines the region produces,” adds Elmarie.
