The Estate
Waterkloof Circle of Life defines a sense of origin and nature’s on-going cycle found in these biodynamic vineyards on the Schapenberg, next to Sir Lowry’s Pass near Somerset West. The wine is not defined by grape varieties but rather from the myriad of slopes, soils, altitudes and grape varieties found on the farm.
Harnessing the estate’s commitment to sustainable, biodynamic farming, the Circle of Life range is an all-embracing description by taste of Waterkloof’s defining sense of origin and nature’s on-going cycle found in its amphitheatre of bio-dynamic vineyards on the Schapenberg.
In terms of flavour and character, the two wines in this range are not defined by grape varietal or indeed a specific block within the vineyard, but instead encapsulate the myriad of slopes, soils, altitudes and varietals found on the farm.
The Process
At Waterkloof, they choose to work in harmony with nature’s cycle, not manipulating and over-exploiting the environment. With this in mind, all fruit is handpicked and hand-sorted.
Following this careful selection, our red and white grapes are handled differently but are both treated with an equally natural approach. The use of horses rather than tractors, and chickens rather than pesticides, is just two of the dedicated techniques this farm lives by.
Waterkloof Circle of Life and the other wines retain the elegance of the estate but are a little more expressive in style. To enjoy Waterkloof Circle of Life at its best is by decanting and aerating them, before enjoying with food and some good friends.
