ditto Ice Cream & Waffle House
Vegan ice cream is no stranger to Cape Town, but ditto Ice Cream is one of the first oat milk ice cream parlours to exclusively serve vegan ice cream and offer an allergen-free, plant-based alternative for those looking to stay away from gluten, soy and lactose. They always have new and interesting flavours, served either in a cup or a delicious (freshly made) waffle cone with a range of toppings. Their waffles are also insanely delicious.

Kristen’s Kick-Ass Ice Cream
In the idyllic setting of the Noordhoek Farm Village, Kristen Batzer-Buttress serves her kick-ass ice cream. Based on an idea of childhood-inspired flavours and combinations, Kristen is scooping up classic flavours like chocolate, made with 70% dark chocolate and cocoa, vanilla and salted caramel – but also has unusual combinations like Rooibos Apricot and Crack Caramel. We were done in by their Coconut Fudge, Coffee & Dark Chocolate, with its rich and creamy combination – outstanding.

Las Paletas (Spanish for ‘ice lollies’) offers handmade sorbet and dairy lollies, made in small batches from quality ingredients, such as real fruit, herbs, spices, nuts and real dairy. Tapi Tapi doesn’t just sell just ice cream, they sell culture by the scoop. Inspired by authentic African ingredients, this hand-crafted ice cream is an ode to the flavours that raised many. Founder, Tapiwa Guzha, honours African ingredients in the most delicious way possible. South African flavours include Koesister and Boeber (spiced vermicelli) ice cream, and indulgent deep-fried amagwinya. Other flavours include Ghanaian-inspired Caramelised Plantain, Sorghum, Ginger and Fire-roasted Peanut. They regularly update their offerings depending on seasonal favourites, so you’re always in for a sweet surprise!

Located on Kloof Street, Unframed serves up unadulterated ice cream indulgence in its purest form. French owner, Yann Rey, and his flavour developer (based in France) have created deliciously unique flavours such as Turmeric Latte and Burnt White Chocolate, as well as a few favourites, Chocolate and Sea Salt Caramel, that are always on hand. They have vegan ice cream and sorbet, as well as regular ice cream, plus interesting toppings like raw date caramel and cardamom dark chocolate.
