Remhoogte Aspect Merlot
Red
Stellenbosch
2015
The Boustred family have produced a range of stellar wines on the Simonsberg slopes for many years. They’ve become known for their full-bodied reds, and this Merlot is made with extensive care from vineyard selection, all the way to barrel selection. They believe that the position and aspect of the specific vineyard chosen for this wine has a great influence on the end result (when referring to terroir, aspect is one of the influencing factors). Made from the estate’s highest and steepest vineyards. The south-westerly ASPECT ensures the vineyards are exposed to the prevailing summer breezes off the sea which cool the vineyards down in the afternoons and evenings. This, in turn, gives the grapes more time to ripen. The soils are decomposed granite on heavy clay.
On the nose: The nose is dark and brooding with ripe currants, cherries and plums backed by white pepper and cedar.
On the palate: The palate is full and juicy with polished tannins and a lively acidity bringing freshness and length.
