Steenberg is well known for making world class wines and as sister winery to Graham Beck, there is no shortage when it comes to talent and expertise in the making of MCC. Steenberg ex-cellarmaster and now general manager, John Loubser has also become well known for his personal MCCs under the Silverthorn label and Pieter Ferreira of Graham Beck doesn’t carry the nickname ‘Bubbles’ for nothing.
Rose Champagnes are not often made from 100% Pinot Noir grapes, but here we have an example that will make you love this wine forever. To make a bubbly according to the Champagne Method, the wine must go through a second fermentation in the bottle. In this case, the wine remains in the bottle after fermentation on the yeast lees for a further 3 years before disgorgement which, in this case was in July 2013. This contributes a lovely richness to the wine but without the use of any oak.
The wine is packed with a variety of berry flavours and creaminess with rich buttery brioche that gives it a lovely full flavour. It has the fine tickle of a gentle mousse in your mouth and a refreshing aftertaste. It is a perfect bubbly for those special occasions when only the best will be good enough.
