Lourensford Reserve Red Blend
The Lourensford Reserve Red Blend is a popular bottle of wine which comes the Lourensford Wine Estate. The estate rests comfortably on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountains, boasts wonderful scenery and produces award winning wines.
Lourensford Estate was established in the 1700’s when the then Governor of the Cape planted Vineyards and Fruit Trees. Vineyard plantings began in earnest again in 2000 and the ultra-modern winery was erected in 2002.
A cool and wet winter allowed vines to go into proper dormancy. The vineyards experienced severe winds at the end of November and extreme heat wave conditions at the end of December. Luckily this did not affect the sensitive flowering and ripening stages too much.
The vineyards experienced a cool summer with the highest rainfall for February in many years, this resulted in slower ripening and the ability to harvest at lower sugar levels.
Lourensford Reserve Red Blend is comprised of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon and 32% Merlot. The wine traverses along the palate quite smoothly as it is silky, velvety and elegant. The complex flavour will awaken your taste buds and will leave you wanting more of this big bold wine. Decant before enjoying.
On the nose
A pleasant aroma consisting of fruits which add to the rich colour of the wine, namely concentrated flavours of blackcurrant, ripe red cherries, prunes as well as fragrant violets and cedar wood.
On the palate
Dense, explosive in terms of the flavour yet at the same time it is well structured.
