Lismore Chardonnay
Chardonnay
Greyton
2011
Greyton is not one of those places you simply stumble upon. It’s that place at the end of the road – the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. It’s only a short drive off the N2 near Caledon, but you’ll only get there if you actually take the turn off.
The quaint village offers superb cuisine, rustic art and is home to well known Von Geusau Chocolates. You really have to stay for at least a night to experience the magic of Greyton.
Samantha O’Keefe has been making wine here for nearly a decade, and many a wine critic has waxed lyrical over her Chardonnay. Her vineyards overlook the rolling green hills the Overberg is so well known for. She shares this beautiful corner with Andy Mitchell wines, which are also well worth a try.
This Chardonnay spent eleven months in small, oak barrels and shows intense citrus flavours balanced with just the right amount of honey and vanilla. For me, this is what Chardonnay should taste like – rich yet uncomplicated.
