The Estate
In 1689 Jacques de Villiers, wine farmer from Niort and ancestors of the present day De Villiers family at Landskroon, arrives at the Cape along with the first contingent of French Huguenot refugees. Fast forward to the 1972, this was when the first wine was bottled on the estate and marketed under the Landskroon name. It was the process that would eventually produce quality wines such as the Landskroon Paul de Villiers Reserve.

The land for Landskroon Wine Estate was granted in 1692. The Estate, owned for 5 generations by the de Villiers family, is on the south western slopes of the Paarl Mountain, named for the three large granite rocks on top which shine likes pearls in the sun after rain. The Landskroon Paul de Villiers Reserve wine is made from 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Cabernet Franc & 18% Merlot.

The Landskroon Paul de Villiers Reserve grapes were harvested at 25°B, destemmed and transferred to open fermentation tanks. After the addition of selected yeasts the juice, together with the skins, were allowed to ferment at controlled temperatures of 25°C – 28°C. Regular punch downs allowed for optimum colour and tannin extraction.

Tasting Notes
On the nose
Blackcurrants, fynbos herbs, graphite filing and an undertow of supporting oak.

On the palate
Rich complex flavours which slowly unwind from a firm core. A generosity of fruit, blueberries, roadside brambles and cassis. Beautiful full palate with well-integrated tannins. Perfect harmony from entry to the long dry elegant aftertaste.
