Inside and You’re Out Burgers (IYO)
The burgers are super juicy, stuffed with all manner of goodies and served with a choice of kale chips, sweet potato or curly fries.
Cape Town market-goers will be familiar with the faces of the IYO guys, and will be happy to know that their delicious burgers have found a permanent home on Bree Street. IYO Burger restaurant opened a few months ago and is furiously serving up their famed stuffed burgers to hungry diners.
The space located upstairs at 103 Bree Street, was designed by Perfect Places, a team that focuses on eco-architecture that minimises environmental impact. It has great window views over the CBD and is brightly decorated with pops of orange and touches of greenery all around.
Patrons order their meal by checking off selections from a variety of choices on a small sheet of paper. The menu includes market favourites such as Whiskey Braai-BQ, a smoked cheddar, grass-fed beef patty topped with organic bacon, avo and their famous whiskey Braai-BQ sauce and the Pickle Pulled Piggy, a smoked cheddar, pulled pork patty, topped with pickled red onion and cucumber ribbons, plus many other delicious options. The burgers are super juicy, stuffed with all manner of goodies and served with a choice of kale chips, sweet potato or curly fries. Guests are even encouraged to pick some extra garnish from the herb boxes in the centre of the tables, which were grown from seed from the Oranjezicht City Farm. All the drinks on offer, bar the tequila, are locally sourced and include organic wines, craft beers, ciders and spirits. There are also smoothie shakes, kombucha and fresh, cold pressed juices to chose from.
The focus at IYO Burger is on living well, and making the idea of a sustainable, eco-conscious lifestyle totally accessible. The place has a fun vibe and a cool, laid back atmosphere that really does make you want to return. The team only does business with local suppliers, and there is an ongoing focus on sourcing ethical products offsetting environmental impact. Currently they are tracking their electricity usage and plan to balance that with an environmental contribution like planting trees.
The team’s mission at IYO is to show the world that eating and being ethical is easy and can be super tasty, and if their burgers are anything to go by, they are well on their way.
