The Marine Hotel is an institute in Hermanus; it is 113 years old and has been an iconic part of the coastal landscape all these years. It is positioned in one of the most enviable spots, perched right on the cusp of the ocean and in the heart of the whale watching strip. Having been family owned and operated for many years, it has enjoyed much success and hosted famous guests throughout its history. From the days of hosting dances in its grand ballroom, to now offering a sophisticated stay for travellers from around the globe. In the nineties, it was bought by the Liz McGrath group and is now part of the portfolio that also includes Cellars Hohenort and The Plettenberg.

The rooms are stylish and comfortable and blend the history of the hotel in a contemporary way. Rich fabrics, luxurious finishes and small touches make it a special place to stay. The hotel has one main restaurant serving dinner, a breakfast room, plus the lounge where snacks are served, the menus of all of which are overseen by group executive chef, Peter Templehoff. As the sun starts to set and before you head in for dinner, relax with a glass of bubbly or local wine in The Sun Lounge and enjoy a pre-dinner snack. Origins at The Marine serves a curated menu of local, seasonal dishes inspired by the earth. Expect a sunny breakfast the following morning at The Pavillion, which pays homage to the glamour of the 1920s.
