Kloof Street House
Kloof Street House is one of those dreamy restaurants you can visit for any occasion. The simple, French-inspired menu will have something for everyone. The decor is opulent, making it great for a special occasion, and the three crackling fireplaces make it a perfect spot to warm up this winter.

Another old favourite of the Kloof Street crowd, and one of the more vibey Cape Town restaurants with fireplaces, Asoka is the spot to go for drinks, dinner and dancing. Besides the beautiful fireplace, the decor and ambience is warm and relaxed, ensuring a cosy couple hours of sipping and snacking.

The Company’s Garden Restaurant
Since it’s winter you may not immediately think of visiting Company Gardens given its outdoorsy setting. But in fact you would be mistaken, this is indeed a lovely place to go when the weather is cold. Cosy blankets and a fireplace will keep you warm, as well as plenty of yummy menu options and coffee by Deluxe.
Of course, coffee should not be enjoyed without a slice, or several slices of cake, so try the carrot cake or baked cheesecake options. If you are up for a brisk walk, make sure you purchase some peanuts from a vendor nearby and ensure the garden squirrels have enough stores for winter!

Right at the top of Constantia Nek, shrouded in mist on a cold winter’s day, is an oasis of warmth. Enjoy a glass of Constantia wine as you warm your toes and peruse the winter menu. Choose from lots of yummy winter meals such as pulled pork on a choux bun or a Guinness stout pie. Open Door Restaurant, Constantia
Open Door has quite recently opened its doors at Uitsig in Constantia. Boasting fireplaces, an extensive wine list and beautiful food it ticks all the boxes for a great day out. With an à la Carte menu as well as a cafe menu there will be something to suit everyone’s tastes and tummies. Be sure to save space for dessert, these masterpieces, created by Christine de Villiers, ex-Le Quartier Francais pastry chef, are beautiful and elegant – definitely worth the calories!

The tasting room at La Motte is the perfect place to visit on a cold winters day. Sitting in front of the roaring fireplace, sampling fabulous estate wine is a great way to spend an afternoon. The tasting room at Anthonij Rupert Wines is located in the gorgeously refurbished original Manor House. Sample a select range of bespoke wines and take in the beautiful surroundings and furnishings. The Cape Dutch style Manor House is cosy, warmed by fireplaces and the taste of great wines. Enjoy views out over the Franschhoek mountains and enjoy the luxury of the surroundings without the pretence. You can even opt to enjoy a sumptuous high tea with bubbles if you feel like indulging in something sweet.

Gabriëlskloof, Bot Rivier
Gabriëlskloof Wine and Olive Estate is nestled in the mountains of the Bot Rivier area. If you are heading to or from the Walker Bay area it is ideally placed to pop into on your way…. although you may find you don’t want to leave! A welcoming fireplace and the aroma of food from the restaurant are a heady combination. Enjoy wine tasting and browsing the beautiful deli on site. The food at the restaurant, prepared by Executive Chef Frans Groenewald, is country cooking at its best! Whatever you do, do not miss the sinfully indulgent Souskluitjies with preserved oranges and toasted almonds. Gabriëlskloof Restaurant is open daily for breakfast and lunch, except on Tuesdays and bookings are essential.
