The Estate
The Asara Chenin Blanc forms part of the estate’s celebrated Vineyard Collection. The name Asara is in honour of Astar, Asis and Asase, the North African gods of earth, sun and sky.
This symbol of balance and harmony of nature is reflected in the estate’s wines.
Winemaking at Asara is a collaborative effort led by winemaker Danielle Le Roux, who works closely with farm manager and viticulturalist Alan Cockcroft, and his assistant William Bussell. Danielle is assisted by Janette van Lill and Christiaan Nigrini.
Our winemaking team follows a classic style, guided by the philosophy of allowing Asara’s unique and special terroir to express itself in the Asara Chenin Blanc and the selection of other wines through minimal cellar handling, and balanced and integrated oak as a platform for the fruit. The estate regularly enters wines in international wine competitions, and is has established an impressive list of awards.
To create the Asara Vineyard Collection Chenin Blanc, carefully selected Chenin Blanc grapes are pressed and go into 22 barrels. The yields are relatively low, berry sizes small and the bunches fairly loose, making for concentration and intensity.
The core of Asara wine range has with minimal cellar handling, carefully chosen fruit, usually single varieties with the exception of the Cape Fusion blend of Pinotage, Malbec & Shiraz.
Tasting Notes
On the nose
Rich with abundant ripe pear and pineapple with nuances of honeysuckle.
On the palate
Rich and slightly oily, with complex layered fruit, apricot and peach, on mouth-filling acidity, and the oak imparts a delicate mouth filling structure.
