The Whale Coast

The Overberg coastline, fondly known as the Whale Coast, stretches from Rooi Els all the way to Quoin Point and includes the seaside towns of Kleinmond, Onrus, Hermanus, Gansbaai, Pearly Beach and everything in-between. The coastline is well-known as one of the best land-based whale watching spots in the world and, annually, Southern Right whales make their way to the waters of Walker Bay to calve. Gansbaai, known as the Great White Shark capital, is synonymous with these incredible creatures and offers some of the best viewings of them in their natural habitat in the world. The Whale Coast, specifically the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, is also known for producing incredible wines, making the area as a whole one of the most exciting places to visit along the Cape’s beautiful coastline.
