Diemersdal Grüner Veltliner
Grüner Veltliner is a traditional Austrian variety and is something very new to the South African wine scene. It is difficult to explain a new wine like this, but expect something between a light Riesling and a Sauvignon Blanc, with a unique elegance. Thys Louw, owner and winemaker, used traditional Grüner Veltliner yeast to create a wine as close to tradition as possible. After fermentation the wine spent a further 6 months on the lees (dead yeast cells) to enhance mouthfeel and concentration of flavours. This wine bursts with flavours of watermelon, winter melon, pineapple and a touch of mint and has a clean, yet lingering finish. Pair this wine with fresh seafood or fragrant and lightly spiced Asian dishes.
