Take in the View at Haute Cabrière

Words: Crush | Photography: Supplied

If you reach the top end of Huguenot (Main) Road, Franschhoek, a left turn at the T-junction and a short drive up the hill will lead you right to the door of Haute Cabrière, the home of Pierre Jourdan Cap Classique. Set into the Franschhoek Mountains, the winery and restaurant offer a unique underground cellar setting that you won’t find anywhere else.

Enjoy wine tasting and lunch overlooking a magnificent view of the valley below. If you are still enjoying your tasting around three o’clock in the afternoon, choose a spread of tapas snacks to nibble on as you watch the sun set.

If you fancy a bit more of an intimate look at winemaking, take a guided cellar tour on a Saturday with founder Achim von Arnim or his son, Cellar Master Takuan von Arnim. This animated tour includes the opening of a bottle of Pierre Jourdan MCC by sabrage, using a French cavalry sabre. If you are in a celebratory mood, book in at the restaurant where the team of Nic van Wyk and Westley Muller create amazing food that suits the surroundings and the wines.
